Keep Holding On – SAB Choir – Avril Lavigne

One of my favourite movie songs, from the 2011 film Eragon, written by Lavigne and Lukasz Gottwald, this is an excellent addition to any show choir or school concert.

The song is a poignant anthem that resonates with the struggles and resilience of youth, making it a suitable choice for school choirs. With its empowering lyrics and heartfelt melody, the song encourages perseverance in the face of adversity, a message particularly relevant to students navigating the challenges of adolescence. The melodic lines and harmonies here create a stirring atmosphere that inspires hope and unity, qualities essential for fostering a sense of camaraderie within school choirs.

Moreover, the song’s accessible vocal arrangement makes it well-suited for choirs of varying skill levels. Its vocal lines are relatively simple yet emotive, allowing singers to connect with the lyrics and convey their message with sincerity. The uplifting nature of “Keep Holding On” can serve as a source of motivation and encouragement for choir members, instilling a sense of determination and resilience as they strive to harmonise and perform together. Overall, the song’s universal themes of perseverance and solidarity make it an ideal choice for school and show choirs or glee clubs seeking to inspire both their members and audiences alike.

This version is suitable for intermediate teenage choir and above – it features some difficult rhythms and the occasional crunchy harmony. Watch the YouTube Video below for a recording and sheet music follow along.
