I’ve created a new playlist featuring my YouTube videos of rounds for choirs to warm up with. My aim is to provide the guide video and the backing track at the same time, so choirs can get used to singing on their own. These are aimed at primary or elementary school choirs, beginning their musical education.
These are great as a first introduction to harmony and working together, singing different notes. Encourage your choir to sing gently, not shouting over each other and establish a strong pulse before starting. Younger choirs are likely to shout over each other and rush when singing rounds for the first time, in an effort to be heard.
I like the idea of taking fun pop songs and utilising them as a round; this makes it a quick teach and gets straight to the point. So far, the playlist includes Dynamite by Taio Cruz and Wake Me Up by Avicii. Please comment if you think of any more that would work well and I shall credit you in the video.
